SANTA BARBARA COUNTY JAIL:
The Santa Barbara County Main Jail is a secure correctional facility holding pre-trial
detainees as well as male and female sentenced inmates. The Main Jail receives new bookings directly from Sheriff's Patrol
and other south coast police agencies such as the Santa Barbara Police Department, the University Of California Police Department,
and the California Highway Patrol. Detainees from the Santa Maria Branch Jail are routinely transported to and housed in the
Main Jail.
The jail's average daily population is in excess of 640 inmates.
Custody Deputies, supervised by Custody Deputy Sergeants
and Lieutenants oversee the security and safety of the inmate population. Regulated by the California Board of Corrections,
the facility provides for the basic needs of all inmates, such as clothing, food, and hygiene supplies.\

Santa Maria Branch Jail
The Santa Maria Branch Jail facility is classified
as a type-1 facility. As such, inmates are held for a time period up to 96 hours. Inmates who are not eligible for release
within this period, are transferred to the Main Jail facility. The Branch Jail facility is staffed by one Custody Deputy Lieutenant,
two Custody Deputy Sergeants, eleven Custody Deputies and two support staff. This facility accounts for 32% of total county
bookings.

Overview:
The jurisdiction of Santa Barbara
County Sheriff's Department covers more than 2,744 square miles, including 118 miles of coastline.
The
Channel Islands offshore and 983 square miles of National Forest.
There are urban and rural communities, including
the cities of Buellton, Solvang and Carpinteria, for which the Department provides police services under contract. The public we protect numbers over 189,000,
roughly half of the county population. In the Sheriff's Department at this time, there are nearly 300 Sworn Deputy Sheriffs,
over 175 Sworn Corrections Officers and nearly 200 Civilian Employees
